MIT Office of Career Services (MOCS)

Your career, designed personally. Delivered across your program.

MOCS is MITSDE's in-house career and well-being service — built into every program. From the day you enroll, you receive a personalised career plan, structured milestones, expert mentoring, and one-on-one support, right through to your next role.

What MOCS Is

A career office, inside your program.

MOCS is MITSDE's in-house career and well-being service — built into every program. From the day you enroll, you receive a personalised career plan, structured milestones, expert mentoring, and one-on-one support, right through to your next role.

This means a personalised career plan written for you, not a generic checklist. A roadmap that runs the full length of your program. Workshops, mentoring, mock interviews, counselling, and placement support — all sequenced to meet you when you need them, not in a rushed final-semester module.

Working professionals deserve structured career support built into their program. MOCS delivers exactly that.

Three Pillars

Pillar What It Means
Personalized Every student receives a Career Development Plan built from their own diagnostic, goals, and gaps. No two plans are identical.
Continuous Career support runs across all 4 semesters — not as a final-semester placement push.
Holistic Career readiness and mental well-being. Counselling, stress management, and life-skills are part of the plan, not optional extras.

The MOCS Journey — How It Works

Your Career Roadmap

Five stages. One outcome.

The MOCS journey runs across four semesters in five clear stages. Each stage builds on the last — you cannot practice for interviews if you have not built the skills, and you cannot build the skills without first diagnosing where you stand.

Stage 1 — Diagnose

You complete the Career Diagnostic, meet your career manager, and receive your personalised Career Development Plan (CDP). MOCS establishes your starting point — your current role, target role, strengths, and gaps.

Stage 2 — Plan

Your roadmap is finalised. You complete role-clarity workshops, set up your LinkedIn profile, and connect with peers in your domain. By the end of Stage 1, you know what you are working towards and how MOCS will get you there.

Stage 3 — Build

The skill-building phase: soft-skills training, communication workshops, leadership programs, networking series, and the commencement of your industry mentoring journey.

Stage 4 — Practice

Resume sign-off, AI-powered mock interviews, panel mocks, portfolio building, and live feedback. By the end of this stage, you are interview-ready.

Stage 5 — Place

Active placement support, offer-handling guidance, salary negotiation training, and final mentoring. The goal is not just an offer — it is the right offer.

The Career Diagnostic Tool

Your career measured before it is planned.

Every MOCS journey begins with the Career Diagnostic — a structured assessment completed in the first month at MITSDE. It captures four things:

  • Where you are today — your current role, industry, experience, salary band, and day-to-day responsibilities.
  • Where you want to go — your target role, industry, salary, and the type of career move you are attempting (advancement, switch, return-to-work, or leadership transition).
  • What you bring — your skills, certifications, domain depth, and what is already working in your career.
  • What is holding you back — the specific gaps between your current profile and your target role, mapped against real industry hiring patterns.

The diagnostic is not a personality test or generic aptitude quiz. It is the input layer for everything MOCS does for you — your roadmap, your CDP, your workshop priorities, and your mentoring match are all shaped by what the diagnostic surfaces.

ℹ The most common pattern: students know their target role but underestimate the skill gap to get there. The diagnostic makes that gap concrete — and turns it into a plan with deadlines.

The diagnostic is delivered through the LMS within the first 30 days of your program. It takes 30–45 minutes. Your career manager will walk through the results with you in your first 1:1 call.

Your Career Development Plan (CDP)

A career plan written for you, not for everyone.

Once your diagnostic is complete, MOCS builds your Career Development Plan — a personalised document specifying what you are working on across the duration of your program, why, and how MOCS will support you.

Your CDP is generated using AI trained on the MOCS framework, then reviewed and refined by a member of the MOCS career team. It is delivered in two formats:

  • A PDF you can download, print, share with your mentor, and refer to whenever you need a reset.
  • An audio walkthrough — a short voice note that explains your plan in plain language, designed for working professionals to access on the go.

What Your CDP Includes

  • Career snapshot — your current role and target role, side by side
  • Career move type — switch, advancement, leadership transition, or return-to-work
  • Target role analysis — what hiring managers actually look for
  • Skill gap map — what you have, what you need, what is missing
  • Career roadmap — activities and milestones lined up for you
  • Semester-wise focus — what each semester will build
  • MOCS services scheduled for you — workshops, mentoring, counselling, and mock interviews
  • Your career manager's contact details and communication channel

Two students in the same program can have very different CDPs. A 5-year HR generalist targeting HR Analytics receives a different plan from a 10-year operations manager aiming for a senior leadership role — same MOCS framework, two distinct journeys.

ℹ Impact instrumentation in progress: Quantitative CDP outcomes will be reported from January 2027 onwards, once the Cohort 15 batch completes its first measurement window.

Services & Milestones

Every service exists to move you closer to your next role.

MOCS is not a list of disconnected workshops. Each service is mapped to a specific outcome on your roadmap, and each major checkpoint is a tracked milestone visible on your learner profile.

Outcome: Clarity on direction, support during personal and professional decisions, confidence at moments that matter.

2. Industry Mentoring
Four structured mentoring meetings with a senior industry professional from your domain. Small groups, focused discussions.
Outcome: Real-world perspective on your target role, network access, and decision-grade advice from someone in the seat you are aiming for.

Multi-session workshop series on workplace communication, emotional intelligence, feedback, assertiveness, and adaptability — led by trainers and psychologists.
Outcome: Workplace-ready communication and interpersonal skills.

Workshop series on adaptive leadership, strategic thinking, data-driven decision-making, emotional intelligence, and influence without authority.
Outcome: The skills senior roles actually require.

5. Networking Programme
Structured workshop series on personal brand, networking conversations, and strategic and digital networking.
Outcome: A working professional network — not just a contact list.

6. Mock Interviews — AI and Panel

Outcome: Interview confidence built through practice, not theory.

7. Mental Health & Well-Being Support (Maanas + Anubhuti)
Counselling sessions, stress assessment profiles, and mindfulness and burnout management workshops led by qualified psychologists.

What are the Industry Mentors saying

Jacob George

The mentoring conducted was very interesting and meaningful. Every member in the team expressed their desire to get into a more challenging field and they find Supply Chain & Logistics is a growing sector with a lot of opportunities and creative ideas can be implemented...

The discussions helped to understand the participants strengths and weaknesses and skill sets required for taking up assignments in Logistics. Though few had some understanding about the Supply chain & Logistics, to enter into the field requires more deeper understanding & knowledge.

Hemant Golechha

As a mentor of a group of talented students (of MIT School of Distance Education) from diverse backgrounds and different experiences, I couldn't be happier and more content to see their zeal to progress and achieve over the course of their masters' program...

Watching them keen to work hard, engage in thought-provoking discussions, and develop their skills has been a truly enriching experience for me. Each of them brings a unique perspective to the table, which has made our interactions even more engaging and insightful Seeing them grow both professionally and personally will be a great source of satisfaction for me.

I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experiences with them and learning from their insights and perspectives. Their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn have filled me with positive energy and renewed my own passion for my work.

As we move forward in this journey together, I am confident that each one of them will achieve their aspirations and become successful professionals in their respective fields. I feel honored to be a part of their journey and am looking forward to continued personal and professional growth for all of us.
